What’s the best DNS for PS4 in Europe for stable gameplay?
So… yeah. I’m in Germany, have decent fiber (100 meg, give or take), but every evening like clockwork, boom, lag in FIFA. Random jumps, delays, sometimes I get kicked mid-game.
I don’t get it. Speed test shows fine, YouTube runs smooth, but as soon as I hit “Online Match”… mess.
Some guy on Discord told me to “just change your DNS, bro.” Like, okay but does that actually help? I mean, has anyone here done it on PS4, not PC, not theory on console and seen it improve?
I’ve heard Cloudflare, Google, something-9… I dunno. If you’ve tried it and it actually made your game smoother, I’d really appreciate a quick nudge. Oh and if you could tell me where to even change that in the PS4 settings, I’ve never messed with that stuff.
Thanks.
The best DNS for PS4 in Europe
Hey, yeah I’ve been through the exact same thing. I’m in Belgium, fast internet, zero issues on Netflix, but gaming at night? Total chaos.
Switched DNS on my PS4 out of desperation and… yeah, it helped. Not “OMG this is 5G-level” fast, but matchmaking stopped hanging, and input delay dropped a bit. Felt tighter, less frustrating.
Here’s what I did (and still use):
Primary DNS: 1.1.1.1
Secondary: 1.0.0.1
(That’s Cloudflare. Surprisingly solid.)
I tried Google’s 8.8.8.8 and yeah, it worked, but for me, it sometimes felt a little off at night. Not terrible, just kinda slow-ish.
How to change it? Dead simple:
1. Go to your PS4’s Settings
2. Open the settings on your PS4, scroll till you see “Network.” Click that and somewhere in there, you’ll find the option to set up internet.
3. Choose your method (Wi-Fi or LAN)
4. Pick Custom
5. IP = Automatic
6. DHCP = Don’t Specify
7. DNS = Manual
8. Plug in the two numbers above
9. Rest just leave on default, then test connection
That’s it. Takes like 2 mins.
And if it doesn’t help? Just switch back, no harm done.
For me, though worth it. Way fewer spikes. No more rage-quitting.
